The South Okanagan Similkameen Volunteer Centre
The South Okanagan Similkameen Volunteer Centre is a registered charity and society that provides a one stop for volunteers looking to become engaged in their community. The SOS Volunteer Centre promotes volunteerism and helps volunteers by providing opportunity listings where volunteers can help out. The SOS Volunteer Centre staff also meet with volunteers to review their interests and experiences and provide them with hard copy materials of Volunteer Guides and other information to help volunteers understand the benefits of volunteering to themselves and to their community.
The Volunteer Centre maintains a website at www.volunteercentre.info which includes a searchable volunteer opportunities database. Volunteers can register directly with the SOS Volunteer Centre which maintains a list of registered volunteers who are provided with updates on new volunteer opportunities. The SOS Volunteer Centre helps organizations who utilize volunteers by hosting learning events where information is shared on topics related to volunteering.
Board Members: New board members are always welcome. A variety of skills and interests are needed to support the diversity of volunteerism. Those individuals who own their own business are particularly welcome. Contact the SOS Volunteer Centre to receive a board communications package including application.
Volunteers help out at the SOS Volunteer Centre in a number of other ways:
Distribution of Materials (Volunteer Guides, Posters etc.) to public venues in the South Okanagan Similkameen.
Fundraiser Event Help-Several events are held throughout the year where volunteer help is needed. Learning Events and Meetings-Volunteers help out when public events are held to share information.
Display at Public Events– Volunteers help out where SOS Volunteer Displays are set up including the Healthy Living Fair in March.
